Whether you’re after a sandwich made from bread that has only been out of the oven for a matter of hours or a tasty grab and go lunch such as a filled jacket, homemade soup or hot savoury, we feel sure you won’t be disappointed. If you have time you may prefer to sit in one of our many cafés and try a hearty breakfast or lunch, all are family friendly and have the benefit of Wifi should you need it. Or perhaps our catering service is of interest? We can cater for a simple finger buffet, business meeting, wedding reception or corporate function and we are proud to offer a bespoke service that ensures your exact needs are met. Needless to say we still offer all the classic cakes, pastries and morning goods, simply all the indulgences you look for when visiting your local baker.
Despite our growth from a one shop bakery to ten, Truffles has continued to maintain a presence in the local community. We provide ongoing fundraising support in local schools and charities as well as giving the community the opportunity to tour our main bakery and see for themselves how we operate on a day to day basis.
Of one thing you can be sure, we are passionate about our products, our customers and our staff and are committed to be recognised as simply the best bakers in the South of England.
The Truffles story began in 1982 when Peter Tompsett opened in Henfield High Street, West Sussex. Having trained in London and then Germany, Peter was keen to introduce a bit of continental flair to British baking and was determined to make as much as possible by hand from scratch every day (a practice that we are proud to be committed to nearly 30 years later).
The success of his first shop in Henfield led to further premises in Steyning, Hurstpierpoint and Shoreham and the relocation of the original bakery behind Henfield to a larger unit on the Mackley Industrial Estate in Small Dole. Many of the original bakery team are still working alongside Peter including Peter’s wife Jane, who happened to be his first ever shop employee and two of their four children. A further 150 dedicated people make up the Truffles team working together to ensure the smooth running of our ten shops, bakery and mobile catering vans.
Despite our continued growth we still believe that we have remained true to our philosophy that we are a good, honest and hard working family bakery, committed to producing food with flavour and integrity.
